Organization Overview:

African Relief & Development (ARD) is a Somali national NGO operating in South West State, Middle Shabelle, and Banadir. ARD delivers life-saving humanitarian interventions with a focus on food security, agriculture, health, nutrition, WASH, and emergency response.

Role Summary:

The Economic Development Officer will support community-driven programming by participating in assessments, project design, monitoring, and capacity building. The role includes developing training materials, facilitating workshops, supporting savings groups, and promoting local economic growth through partnerships and donor engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage workplans and logistics

  • Coordinate community participation and site/beneficiary selection

  • Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments

  • Promote savings groups and local value chain initiatives

  • Engage in external coordination and inter-agency collaboration

  • Monitor and report on skill uptake and program impact

  • Supervise construction of livelihood assets and certify completion

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Economics

  • 2–3 years of experience in economic recovery and livelihoods, including cash-for-work and vocational training

  • Experience working with IDPs and resilience programming in fragile settings

Skills Required:

  • Strong community engagement and problem-solving skills

  • Understanding of disaster risk management and participatory development

  • Proficiency in MS Office and data analysis tools

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills

  • Fluency in English; Somali language is an advantage
